Advanced Poker Tricks

Tricks of Advanced Poker

There are so many books on poker tips in the market that the line seems unending. However, sadly all these books seem to be written for the novice player and have nothing to offer to those who have achieved a certain level of expertise in the game. Below are five great tips that can take your game to an all new level even if you are good at the game.
  1. Consistent Table Impression- It is important that you maintain the image that you have created for yourself. If the other players have seen you as a tight player, you must exploit this image and make the most of your blinds. On the other hand if you are seen as a loose player, then the trick is to make the other players bet higher in cases where you have a strong hand.
  2. Opposite strategy – A poker player who wishes to better his/her game must learn to first comprehend the average strategy of the table and then adopt an opposite stance. So if the entire table is playing a tight game, you must play a loose one and vice versa. This is a very important tip and can make you win tremendously.
  3. First place play- Any experienced poker player knows that the only position that you do play for is the ‘first’ one. During tournament play it is critical that you deep play and play to win. Hesitation can ruin the game so do not think too much in case you need to fall on your sword when 15 handed. The final two tables demand a short handed approach and by this stage you must have a large stack of chips built up so as to be able to throw your weight around at this time.
  4. Hand choice – Not every hand is worth playing. Depending on your table position and table image you will need to learn how to choose which hands deserve a bet. Tight play rarely wins hands especially in online poker. Early positions will do better to back up only strong hands. Professional players suggest a 75s under the gun bet with a raise in case the rest of the table is playing tight.
  5. Raising the bet – Do not make the mistake of calling unless you are trapping. Raising and then raising again is integral to the game of poker. It is a fact that those who are able to control the game before the pre-flop stage will often win about 80% of the time. However, do remember that re-raising a player who has not been playing for some time would be foolish since in all probability the player is playing tight and has a very strong hand.

The personality of the player, his/her position and of course the quality of the hand will all combine to decide the type of strategy to be adopted. The tips listed above are a few general ones that will play a crucial role in bettering your game as an online poker player.
